De Me

I'm a philosophy and economics undergraduate at the University of Arizona and I would say that's a pretty good summary of me. The summer before I started college I was speaking with my best friend about what our majors would be. I had ambitions to be a theoretical physicist at the time, but my friend wasn't quite so certain. When he suggested that he might do philosophy, I judged him for a fool and told him to get out of my car immediately. Okay, I didn't really do that.

Classes started and I ended up in a gen. ed. offered by the philosophy department about morality. Considering that I had no clue what philosophy was about, it was pretty damn interesting. Did you know that philosophers make a habit out of writing about the most epic of topics? Well, expect for perhaps metaphysics. I'm still not sold on that one.

Now here I am a few years later having taken more philosophy classes than required and still plan on taking more over my last two semesters. Yes, I will be a five-year senior, but with good reason! I didn't add my economics major until my senior year. Anyway, I've considered plenty of life plans. Cop, high school teacher, politician, a businessman who turns philanthropist, a popularizer of science but I've finally settled on going into academia for philosophy. Or at least getting my doctorate. Actually, I guess I'd just be in academia then!

In addition to philosophy I move a lot. I fell in love with Crossfit for a while, but I've moved onto power-lifting (with some Olympic work) and a good ole bike ride across town every now and then.(The north and east sides of Tucson are especially beautiful places to ride.) I also WiiFit it up like it's going out of style.

A good book is another good one of my favorite things. The Demon-Haunted World by Carl Sagan is a must read for anyone who considers themselves to be a good human. The Fabric of the Cosmos is a wonderful exposition on what physics currently has to say about reality. The Fountainhead is life changing.
